Project Overview

Pianos on State returns to downtown Santa Barbara this fall! Find the pianos along State Street and in other select locations from September 29 – October 19, 2026.

PIANOS ON STATE is an interactive public art and music experience that takes place every October in downtown Santa Barbara. Each piano, painted by local artists, becomes its own interactive piece placed in public space for the community to play, listen, and enjoy.

Each year, piano painting takes place at the Community Arts Workshop; it’s a weekend of artists of all styles and stripes trading tips and information and making art together.
